Verify your Migration

Once you have finished the migration process, you should do a few quick checks to verify that everything was successful.

The topics covered on this page include:

Note:  If your installation is in another location (not c:\unanet), you'll need to specify the correct path in the server.xml file.

Accessing your Unanet URL

At this point you can restart your Servlet Engine and access your system's URL to verify that you can get to the login page. You should be able to use a web browser to browse your Unanet installation.  The URL you will use to access your system will depend on a number of things -- your machine name, your domain name, the port that your web server is using, etc.

Note: If migrating from version 5.4 or prior -- the URL for you system will no longer end in /servlet/unanet

The URL will be constructed as follows:

http://machine.domain:port/context

where

Once you figure out your system's URL, browse to it.  You should see the Unanet login page.  If you get this far, your system is communicating with the database and your Unanet system should be operational.

Note the Unanet Version number in the web browser's title bar.  It should indicate the new version.  If it is correct and you see the login username and password boxes, your database and Unanet software have both been migrated to the new version.

Log in as an Administrator

You should initially validate the current version number via the help about page to make sure the update was successful.

Further, certain releases contain code which will make small changes to the database schema when the servlet first starts.  While these processes are running, the system will be in a Restricted Access Mode (that is, only users with the Administrator role can log in).  If any issues occur during this process, they will be reported on the Home Dashboard for Administrative users (errors are also written to the servlet logs).  This is another reason we recommend that you log in as an administrator after performing a migration to verify no error messages were displayed.

If any errors were encountered, the message will indicate the error that occurred and inform the administrator of any problems you may encounter as a result of the failure.  In some cases, you can continue to use your system as normal except for the noted functionality.  In the event this happens, please contact Unanet Support as soon as possible to help resolve the issue.
