Labor Categories can be used in Unanet in a number of ways. The basic concept is to provide a means to identify certain types of work effort. For example, you may define categories such as Programmer, Analyst, Technical Writer, etc. You can also (optionally) associate a default bill and or cost rate with each labor category.
Labor Categories can be used when assigning users to Projects and Tasks. If you have supplied the rate information, these rates are then also available to be used on these assignments. See the Project Override Assignment page for more information on that subject.
Labor Categories can also be used within the UnaSource module, to assist with providing bill and cost information for planning and forecasting purposes. See the Project Manager -- Plan Work page for more information on that subject.
Finally, you can also assign a default labor category for each user on the Person screen (or via the Person Import).
The use of labor categories in Unanet is completely optional.

Project Manager's can also view a list of available Labor Categories on the Project Manager Labor Category screen.
Location: Administrator - Data Types - Labor Category - Add.
Administrators can setup new Labor Categories by filling out a form shown below.

Category - this field contains the name of the new labor category. This field is mandatory.
Description - this field contains the description of the new labor category. This field is optional.
Default Bill Rate - this field contains a default bill rate associated with the labor category. This field is optional. If the value is provided, it becomes available in the process of planning and/or assigning a person to work on a project/task with the given labor category.
Default Cost Rate - this field contains a default cost rate associated with the labor category. This field is optional. If the value is provided, it becomes available in the process of planning and/or assigning a person to work on a project/task with the given labor category.
Account Number - this field contains a free form user-defined labor category identifier. This may be useful if exporting data to a downstream system. This field is optional.
